William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was an English textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist. Associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, he was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His literary contributions helped to establish the modern fantasy genre, while he played a significant role in propagating the early socialist movement in Britain. Morris is recognised as one of the most significant cultural figures of Victorian Britain; though best known in his lifetime as a poet, he posthumously became better known for his designs. Early fantasy writers like Lord Dunsany, E. R. Eddison and James Branch Cabell were familiar with Morris’s romances. The Wood Beyond the World is considered to have heavily influenced C. S. Lewis’ Narnia series, while J. R. R. Tolkien was inspired by Morris’s reconstructions of early Germanic life in The House of the Wolfings and The Roots of the Mountains. The young Tolkien attempted a retelling of the story of Kullervo from the Kalevala in the style of The House of the Wolfings; Tolkien considered much of his literary work to have been inspired by an early reading of Morris, even suggesting that he was unable to better Morris’s work; the names of characters such as ”Gandolf” and the horse Silverfax appear in The Well at the World’s End.

Cheap. Fell apart quickly. Does not work
This is a brilliant book that presents an excellent working form of socialism, one that's prosperous and peacefully implemented. The author points out that it is not necessary for change come about through violent or coercive methods. It is just a matter of the people uniting under the desire for a fairer and more equitable solution to the problems that the vast majority face.

My parents are firm believers in capitalism, and I embraced their views for quite some time. It was only recently that I began to re-think everything. With the housing crisis, the bailouts, and all the scandals and corruption I just can't see how the average Joe can get a fair shake. Then I started looking into our economic history and found that the people have been being fleeced in the name of capitalism for a very long time.

People are always saying that socialism can't ever be truly implemented, but I'm seeing capitalism as the failed system right now, one that can never be truly exist as long as robber barons continue to keep congress in their pockets.

The only system that gives the people the power, protection, and prosperity that they deserve is socialism, and this book will explain all of that. True socialism would put an end to the thievery and suffering that the current system has caused. Something has to change, and this book will show us how to make that change and explain why it's so necessary.
This is an excellent blueprint for true socialism, and I think it's one that all readers can enjoy regardless of their political persuasions. It's great food for thought and offers a workable solution to the mess we currently find ourselves in.

I don't think there has ever been a better time than now to consider making dramatic changes to the system we are currently living under. It's just become too obvious that it does not and cannot work, at least not for the average American, because those in power don't want it to work for us. They want things to remain unfair in their favor, and they've become so overconfident they've begun rubbing our noses in it and blatantly treating us like the cattle they think we are.
It is time for the people to take back the power, and it can certainly be done without any threats or violence at all. This book shows us how we can do it.

This is nothing like the socialism promoted by the thinkers who unleashed tyrants upon the world. It's peaceful and gives true consideration to everyone. That's what I like the most about it. It was not written by a hypocrite like Marx who was wealthy and held the poor in contempt, it was written by a man with no ulterior motives, who simply wanted to make a better world for us and gave us the blueprint to do it.
Nice book. It is a good read. Arrived fast. Good for anyone who likes to read anarchism literature. Add to your collection!
